I wonder if this is practical at all. It looks good for portable devices, but on a desktop? I don't see it happening...

For the occasional user it will be practical and especially if it's used only in apps where it makes sense, like the maps thing.

WHAT THE GAMER WILL DO !!

The Gamer will use what the gamer has always used, a mouse and keyboard (console users, COWER!). The multi-touch screen is not going to see very much practicality until some genius software developer gets his or her hands on it for a couple of years.

Casual home users I believe will find it clunky and impractical, but, I think businesses will definately find uses for it. Control panels, data entry work stations, etc. Probably the most interesting use though will be for creative types who want to find a medium that can only exist on this technology. It will be interesting to see what people do with it.

Anda, tu calla que si tu no puedes hacer un sistema operativo como Windows. Creeras que yo soy un defensor de Windows pero Microsoft invierte el dinero y pierde el tiempo desarrollando Windows, pero eso es un trabajo.

this is not windows 7. its just multitouch tech with a program. if it was really windows 7 they would show other stuff other than just the multitouch and it would be backed by windows or show some kind of windows logo for it. they dont just throw out their stuff willy nilly.

Wow this is a nightmare. Windows is focusing on the wrong things. Touch screen interface is cool and all, a real eye catcher but all that does is trying to be more flashy than apple...Get to the core Microsoft, get ride of all you crap in your os, make it run lighter, less fragmented, and find a way to cut out all the excess files that are needed. As a designer i love the options microsoft gives me over Mac along with the 3d software capability but why do you have to have 30 ways of getting to the same file. If they think about slimming i think they might move forward.

Mucha gente cree que porque linux puede ser mas personalizable que Windows, entonces "linux es mejor"!! ERROR SEÑORES, somos pocos lo que en realidad nos interesa como funciona un SO por debajo, pero alla afuera mas del 80% de usuarios no quieren y ni les interesa saberlo...
Uno con linux de 5 tareas 4 hay que hacerlas por consola, en cambio Windows es mas amigable, AUTOMATICO, sin tantas dependencias de RMS o paquetes para poder instalar otros programas...

Lo que SÍ tiene Microsoft que no tiene la gente de GNU/Linux es que Microsoft paga a ingenieros y diseñadores para que sea bonito y agradable, no como linux que cualquier pelmazo hace algo bacano en codigo pero muy pobre en ambiente Grafico, porque no le dan motivacion, para ellos es amor al arte, pero de ese amor tambien se vive y se come.

Windows es Windows, un mundo facil para personas normales, por eso cobran por licencia, mejor negocio no puede haber.

Y segun otros comentarios... pues que se le puede hacer, Windows no es perfecto, pero Linux tampoco lo es, haber si se miran en el espejo gente de GNU/Linux.

I personally don't see the need for a new one, why not just bring out an update for vista first that deals with the more critical issues that vista encounters.release it as another service pack or something.Lets face it, about 80% of people i know despise vista and have reverted back to xp,what does that say?
It's all greed,selling us yet another product that is incomplete and has major security issues.

Yo considero q Windows Vista va en el mismo camino que Windows Millenium, es un Hijo no deseado de Microsoft, solo que lo lanzaron a prueba y no obtuvieron lo que queria,

lo del kernell es cierto, ellos no deberian utilizarlo en su totalidad, solo las cosas que necesitan porque en el kernell de vista puede estar el semejante error y no necesariamente puede estarlo en el resto del SO.

Will there be any significant improvements for Windows 7 for tablet pcs? I assume so given the video, but when will the tablet pc version be released? I'm thinking about getting a tablet pc now, but if 6 months from now Windows 7 ones start showing up, I'll be upset.

I would say that it's a safe bet that they will be bringing out tablet pc's with windows 7 touchscreen on them.( At a Price!)
So if i were you i'd probably wait a few months and see what materialises on the market.
In terms of significant improvements,we all know what microsoft are like,they don't like to have software apps other than their own if they can help it.
So i would expect it will be limited in some respects as to what you can do with it.
I personally would like to see office and spreadsheet software built in aswell as antivirus and apps like video editing software etc, who knows?, we'll just have to wait for the beta release too find out exactly what it can and can't do.

Here we go again with another even more BLOATED Windows OS. There is SO much extra stuff that the OS is useless. Every time Microsoft re-invents their OS it get fatter and more useless. I'm really tired of trying to trim the fat. Time to find another OS other than Windows.

This is not windows 7 beacuse if it was they would show more than just those programs. Plus not all computers are touch screen. That wouldnt make nearly as much money as previous versions. Nobody wants to spend a thousand dollars for a touch screen just for that.

Why does everybody complain abou MS and windows, If you dont like it go back to Unix. I have spent many years as a developer on unix and windows platforms and I have one thisng to say "never show a fool or a woman anything half finished".

By the way I have never managed to crash Vista, maybe youa re all running ancient machines or you are too stupid to run a computer, it sbecause of woindows that most of you get any work done at all.

Hello all, I agree with most of you that it is probably Vista with touch screen capabilities. Only thing they showed was maps, pictures, and screen saver(or at least that is what it looked like) nothing fancy. But I would like to test it out.

All they showed was the touch-screen feature... Ok nobody gives a crap about that.

Well this should be interesting when it comes out, sadly I will get a new laptop in 2010, a year before this comes out :( cause of College...darn it.

Also I wonder how this will impact gaming on the pc, that should be interesting but hopefully avoids becoming like the DS.

I also disregarded Windows Vista myself. I went back to Windows XP because of how better it is. Like I said before, Windows Vista needs some new experience features. Windows XP is more colorful!

It seems like a normal pc with a normal touch-screen, what is amazing in that? yeah it's good, but it does what a normal pocketpc does, it only has a great screen and BumpTop or Real Desktop installed(even if these last 2 are of course better) :)

i still believe that it is not an operating system xp was the one for me a lot of this operating system is based on windows vista which was a flop, i think that this operating system will be also.
upgrade Xp with service packs and you will have up to the date operating system.

Its OK. I could not be excited as it is a copy of some other. That is not fault but we thought that microsoft will design some truly new.
Day by day more powerful but slow operating system are coming. Is there any idea to create powerful os in DOS or simple graphical environment for the KEYBOARD LOVERS (still today, we love to operate pc by keyboard not by the mouse or touches, keyboard lovers are faster than any other.)

me parece bien este windows.. a decir verdad es el mejor... ocupa menos que xp y ni hablar de vista... xp es bueno pero entran muchos bichos y en seven es todo ok... algunas personas hablan cosas negativas de todoo.. eso me da rabiaa... qeu sin conocer algo desisten en seguir conociendo mas... pero bueno.. para la gente inteligente y paciente... aca esta windows 7 y digo paciente.. porque seven anda muy raro al comienzo.. solo tienen que actualizarlo y ya! se arregla solo.. y para qeu se instalen programas ue supuestamente no se pueden instalar solo hay que ejecutarlo como administrador y poner en panel de control algo referido a permitir instalar programas de versiones antiguas de windows.... es facil... bueno espero no desistan porque es muy bueno este sistema operativo
